ABOUT THE PRACTICE

A dentist who’s stayed put for 28 years.

Years in the same building

Before the lodge, there was just a chair and fluorescent lights

Dr. Seume opened this practice on Highway 6 in 1998, fresh out of his residency, in the same building it’s in today — but it looked like any other dental office back then: fluorescent panels, vinyl chairs, a waiting room built for turnover, not comfort. The lodge look came later, once he had enough patients to notice which ones kept rescheduling and why. In 2011 he closed for two weeks and gutted the waiting room himself, doing much of the framing and trim on evenings and weekends. The wood paneling came from a barn being torn down two counties over; the low-glare lighting was a compromise with his hygienists, who wanted enough brightness to actually see what they were doing. He still does every new-patient exam personally rather than handing it to whoever’s free, which is part of why the schedule sometimes runs long — a habit the office has learned to build extra time around rather than fight.

Straight answers before any work begins.

Every treatment plan starts with what it costs and why it’s needed, not after the work is already done. If something can wait, we’ll tell you it can wait. If it can’t, we’ll tell you that too — and what happens if you put it off.

I didn’t want to build another clinic. I wanted to build the room I’d want to sit in myself before an appointment.

— Dr. Seume

The team you’ll actually see

Six people, most of whom have been here for years. You’ll recognize faces at every visit, not just the name on the sign.

Dr. Seume

Dentist
Dr. Seume has always wanted to be a small-town dentist- a place where he could get to know families and be a part of the community. Since purchasing Hitchcock Dental from Dr. Chapman in 1998, he has done just that. He still cares for Dr. Chapman’s family today, a connection he is proud to carry on.

Inside the office

A look at the space Dr. Seume built to feel less like a waiting room and more like somewhere you’d actually want to sit.

Renovated the room, not the standard

The wood paneling went in for comfort. The sterilization protocols, materials, and equipment upgrades happened on their own schedule, driven by what dentistry actually calls for, not by the redesign.

Continuing education

Dr. Seume keeps current on implant and cosmetic techniques rather than referring that work out of the building.

Part of Hitchcock, not just in it

Active in local and state dental associations, and treating some families long enough to see kids become parents.
